“A No No” was released as the second single from Mariah's Caution album on March 4, 2019. “We sampled Lil' Kim's remix of ‘Crush On You,’ which is one of my favorite records of all time,” Mariah told Sheila Scott in 2018. “And then me and my friend Priscilla Renea wrote the song on top of the beat. And then Jermaine got involved in it too in the end and changed a couple things around. So it is kind of a family reunion.”
Mariah enlisted British rapper Stefflon Don for the assist on the first remix of the song, which landed on streaming services on March 15. Another remix featuring up-and-coming rapper Shawni LaDawn was released on April 5.

The three music videos for “A No No” — album version and the two remixes — were directed by Sarah McColgan, who previously directed the videos for “GTFO” and “With You.” In them, Mariah parties and parades around a colorful subway car, alongside a troupe of dancers and some extremely well-dressed passengers.
